Dr. Luis E. Savastano is a vascular and endovascular neurosurgeon who cares for patients with conditions involving arteries or veins of the brain, neck or spine. He has experience in both minimally invasive microsurgery and endovascular techniques, and the conditions he treats include brain aneurysms, Moyamoya disease (a rare disorder that causes major blood vessels leading to a child's brain to narrow), arteriovenous malformations (abnormal tangles of arteries and veins in the brain that can rupture) and carotid artery disease.

In his research, Savastano develops minimally invasive technologies and techniques to better diagnose and treat cerebrovascular diseases (those affecting blood flow to the brain). He has pioneered several endovascular devices and techniques to improve outcomes for patients with these conditions.

Savastano earned his medical degree at National University of Cuyo in Argentina, where he also earned a master’s degree in anatomy and a doctorate in medicine. He completed a residency in neurosurgery and a fellowship in neurointerventional radiology at the University of Michigan. Before joining the UCSF faculty, he was an assistant professor of neurosurgery and radiology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

    First time I met Dr Savastano. I appreciate his thoroughness when reviewing results of my MRI and when describing the state of my aneurysms. Dr Abla saved my life and now I feel like I am in goods hands with Dr Savastano.

    I have honestly have never had a care provider(Doctor) be as kind, compassionate and reassuring as this person has been with me. He takes the time and makes the effort to explain my medical condition verbally, In written material, his notes In My Chart, and shows me pictures before and after procedures . He always asks me if I have any questions about any upcoming procedures and then if I had questions or concerns after my treatment. He explained in detail the risks and rewards of having my proposed medical treatment and general probabilities of the possible outcomes so I could come to the best decision for a person of my age and health.I would 100 percent ( or more) recommend this care provider to my family and friends. I would rate him a 10+ for being excellent in his kindness, friendliness, and listening skills all while having a vast knowledge of Neurology both from his education and medical experience. I am extremely grateful that I was able to have him as my care provider.

    He had a positive diagnosis that he shared immediately. This was a consultation for his analysis on a particular health aspect. The rest of the consult were some questions I had.
